Rapaura Noir will take on top qualifiers Marlborough Forest Wines Whero in the Winebrokers NZ premier tennis final on Sunday.
Noir beat clubmates Rapaura Blanc at the grass courts on Wednesday to clinch the final place in the title decider.
The final round tie was tight from the outset, seven of the nine matches being decided by a super tie break.
The doubles went Blanc’s way, putting Noir under early pressure. Noir duo Ella Sowman and Jared Bell lost 6-2, 5-7, 12-10 to Clyde Sowman and Oscar Sandford-Jury, Blair Hantz and fill-in Don McKay lost 6-2, 7-6 to Blanc’s Stu Campbell and Matt Sutherland before Jane Davidson and Caroline Cornelius put Noir on the board with a 6-1, 1-6, 17-15 win over Eveline Apthorp van der Linden and Pippa Sowman.
Noir bounced back in the singles however, winning four of the six matches to wrap it up, Ella Sowman, Bell, Hantz and Cornelius getting the job done with the first three matches going the distance.
In the other matches, Whero warmed up for the final with a 6-3 win over Renwick while Marlborough Forrest Wines Ma downed Rose by the same score.
The final will take place at the Pollard Park courts at 3pm on Sunday with a few mouthwatering match-ups in prospect, including the top singles with Whero's Hamish Morrow meeting the province's top woman, Ella Sowman.
Final points after 10 rounds: Whero 141, Noir 128, Blanc 121, Ma 115, Renwick 100, Rose 79.
