Marlborough Four Paws volunteers Jacqui and Aliyah need more hands-on deck at the new Four Paws Op Shop in Grovetown.
An animal charity who’ve opened a second-hand store to help fund their crucial community work are appealing for more volunteers.
Marlborough Four Paws needs more people to help staff their new Grovetown op-shop.
The new role comes with a much lower risk of bringing home a new pet, but a distinctly higher risk of bringing home clothes, says Four Paws representatives Jacqui and Aliyah.
“Grants for our work are drying up with more competitive applications, and so the op-shop is trying to secure more stable income stream to continue our desexing work,” Jacqui says.
Marlborough Four Paws has desexed an average of 20 cats each week so far this year and almost 400 last year.
“The overwhelming support has been very humbling, but it’s meant we’ve had to only take two donation drop-off days as we need more hands to help sort what we have received, “Aliyah explains.
The Mills and Ford Road op-shop have two shifts from 9am to 1pm and from 1pm to 5pm.
“It’s a perfect role for people who like to potter, clean, sort and tidy,” Aliyah says.
“Some op-shop’s help fund causes, some help communities with cheap prices, so we like to think we’re being a bit of both for the sake of the animals we help,” Jacqui sums up.
“But with animals we’re overwhelmed with the work we need to do, so please, for so, so many reasons, desex your animals”.
