Cricketers head north for Chapple Cup

The Marlborough men’s representative cricket team to contest the annual Chapple Cup tournament in Palmerston North over the next three days has been named.

A new face on the rep scene is Renwick’s Piers Landon-Lane, who will add his spinning abilities to the 13-strong side’s attacking options.

Also included in the squad is top order batsman AB Jayasinghe, a loan player from the host union Manawatū.

The coveted Chapple Cup is an annual men's white-ball tournament that brings together all eight of the CD District Associations – Nelson, Taranaki, Manawatū, Wairarapa, Horowhenua-Kāpiti, Hawke's Bay, Whanganui and Marlborough.

Finals on the last day will crown the season's champion, as well as the Cave Cup winner.

Round one is a must-win for all teams as it determined who will head off into the main Chapple Cup competition or carry on to fight for the Cave Cup.

Marlborough meet Wairarapa first up on Friday.

Matches will be played at both Fitzherbert and Manawaroa Parks, with live scores on Central Districts Cricket PlayHQ.

The Marlborough team: Andrew McCaa (C), Griffin Carter (VC), Archie Cornelius, Corey Bovey, Luke Holdaway, Jaden Adams, Joel Lavender, Sam Boyce, Sam Young (WK), Piers Landon Lane, Zariab Karkaria, Aiden Conroy, AB Jayasinghe.
