Bluebridge and Interislander ferry sailings cancelled due to large swells in Cook Strait

Some Cook Strait ferry sailings have been cancelled with large swells forecast.

Interislander has cancelled one return sailing of its Aratere ferry this afternoon.

Affected passengers have been moved to alternative sailings, Interislander said on its website.

“We are continuing to keep a close eye on the weather and will update this page if there are any further disruptions.”

Bluebridge has also cancelled two sailings this evening.

“Our top priority is ensuring everyone’s safety while minimising the impact on your travel plans,” Bluebridge said on its website.

“Thank you for your understanding, and we apologise for any disruption this may cause.

Metservice has a gale warning in place for Cook Strait.

It's coastal Cook forecast said a southerly swell will rise to 4m and there could be poor visibility in showers.

A “very rough sea” is expected to ease by Thursday.
