Tasman Trophy set for kick off

Central have named a relatively new-look side for their first Tasman Trophy premiership rugby match of 2025.

The Blues travel to Nelson tomorrow to meet a Marist side who have been one of the stronger sides from the other side of the Whangamoas in recent seasons.

Missing several regulars from the previous campaign, Central have introduced several newcomers, including a handful of former Moutere premier players.

Matt McCormick, usually found at lock, will play No 8, with the experience of Quentin MacDonald and Quinn Harrison-Jones available off the bench.

The team is: 1 Jeremy Foley, 2 Cullum Nimmo, 3 Sione Papani, 4 Luke Martella, 5 Sam Neal, 6 Peyton Yakas, 7 Jack Kelly, 8 Matt McCormick (captain); 9 Logan Philip, 10 Clyde Paewai, 11 Eric Lawson, 12 Ben Filipo, 13 Jack Burdon, 14, Senetenari Ponesi, 15 Koloa Fotu. Reserves: Quentin MacDonald, Tafa Asiata, Quinn Harrison-Jones, Junior Gamble, Jack Fisher-McKinney, Francis Schumann, Dave Fotu.

Kick off is 2pm at Trafalgar Park. In other matches, title holders Kahurangi host Waimea Old Boys while Stoke take on Nelson.
