An eager young firefighter has been blown away by Picton’s support and interest in their efforts after locals were given an insider experience during the recent Picton Fire Station Open Day.
The Open Day was a major success, brought about through the efforts of volunteer firefighter Eden Sadd, who decided to put her hand up to organise.
“The purpose of our open day was for the community to be able to come in and meet the team and look through the station as I know a lot haven’t had the chance”, said Eden.
“When I first moved to Picton nine or so years ago, I found the community was amazing in helping us out, being a young family, so volunteering is my way of giving back to our community.
“We were all absolutely blown away with how many attended and had a lot of fun on the day - racing the wooden fire trucks by using our hoses was a favourite.
“For us to be able to connect with our community too, it well and truly lived up to what we were predicting for the day as every conversation I had with each person was meaningful as I was getting to know new people from our community.”
Picton Chief Fire Officer Wayne Wytenberg says he was very impressed by Eden’s efforts and the results from the day. “Eden asked if she could organise an open/recruiting day, and it’s all her own planning so myself and the whole brigade are proud of her effort in planning this day.
“I did a quick snapshot head count at the time and there was over 145 adults and children, with parents and kids alike queuing for rides.”
