Friends and family celebrated a local woman’s 10-year ‘ampuversary’ with a ten kilometre walk on Sunday.
A decade ago, Carla Taylor realised her limited mobility was impacting on her family life as her child Cobi was becoming more active.
Ten years later, Carla was joined by Cobi, friends and family to commemorate a decision she says helped her quality of life immensely. Carla explains. “I was born with what was classed as a club foot, and so that was a bit of a mission through life.
“Once I had Cobi, I realised it was making an impact on her them because I didn’t have much mobility, so it was time to decide to lose the dodgy leg and get a fancy robot one.
“An amputee friend of mine with a similar back story completed the New York Marathon for his 10 year ampuversary and he inspired me to try for 10km.”
Carla walked from the Taylor Dam, with some doing the full 10km and others joining along the way.
Partner Dean Wills wanted to shine a light on Carla’s story and informed the Marlborough Weekly without Carla’s knowledge.
“She inspires a lot more people than she realises, and it was a lovely little walk to be a part of”, says Dean.
“We got to Raupo, and it wasn’t quite ten kilometres, so in her typical style Carla was determined to finish it before she stopped for a well-earned gin.”
