A free uniform swap meeting is planned to help students acquire properly fitting uniforms freely with a hand-me-down spirit.

Arabella McKenzie, Ayla Tasker and Roisin Anderson are hosting a uniform swap opportunity for current and former students to update their school uniforms for free.

The Dare to Lead class task asks groups to make community action around one of the 17 UN Global Development goals, and Arabella, Ayla and Roisin are hoping they will be able to keep fellow students warm this winter with their efforts.

“Goal four is quality education and so part of that is having proper uniform - especially as we get closer to winter”, said Roisin.

“We want to tell both current students, and parents of former students, they can clean out the closet of old uniform and help current students.”

Contributors are asked to drop uniform off to 20 Newbourne Crescent or 7 Chapel Close between June 13-15, ahead of the swap meet at MGC School Hall on the 19th.

“We’re really after reusable things, like jerseys and skirts that may also too pricey for many, but it’s also for students to take a size 12 shirt instead of their size 10 for free”, adds Ayla.

Dare to Lead class teacher Libby Le Compte says the breadth of topics her class are tackling was wide and varied with collaboration between groups.

“The task was for them to really work out what we can do to make a difference in our local community.

“It is great to see our students collaborate and take initiative to make positive change in the community. This creates a positive culture of optimism and hope.”

“Students have to do all of the organisation with guidance and support of the teacher”.

“Other groups are hosting information nights and quizzes, dog washes, food drives, 24-hour fitness challenges but this really captured my attention for the potential impact on the Marlborough community.”
