Many people will recognise the new owners of Daneunder Workwear in Renwick. Steve and Jo Hill are well known in the district for their previous businesses - 12 years with Wine Tours by Bike and 15 years with Hillsfield House B&B.

After successfully running these two busy tourism operations, Steve and Jo were seeking a change of pace and a better work/life balance. “We were actually on the lookout for a business that would allow us to reset,” explains Jo. “It was a good friend who saw Daneunder’s previous owner Jules Maltesen’s Facebook post about selling the business she and husband Karl had established and told us about it. The timing felt right.”

What really sealed the deal was meeting Jules. “Her attitude toward her customers, her work ethic, the systems she had in place, and just her overall friendliness really resonated with us,” says Steve. “It felt like we were stepping into a business already aligned with how we would run it ourselves.”

Daneunder Workwear has long been known for its broad range of apparel, from hi-vis safety gear to corporate uniforms. Whether you are after fleeced jackets, breathable softshell, waterproof layers, work shirts, trousers, or merino jumpers, they have you covered. “We supply everyone, not just specific industries,” says Jo. “If someone needs something and we don’t have it, we will find it. That is the kind of service we believe in.”

With a product range currently representing around ten brands and growing steadily, Daneunder is also proud to offer a complete branding service, thanks to their partnership with Embroidery Lab. “It isn’t just about the clothes; it’s about making it easy for businesses to outfit their teams. We even set up online catalogues and ordering portals for companies, so they can just log in and get everything delivered, branded and ready to go.”

Although Steve and Jo have only been at the helm of Daneunder Workwear for a brief time, the transition has been smooth. “Jules has been amazing. She is staying on for a while to help us learn the ropes, and we are very grateful for that,” says Jo. “Our first priorities have been getting the new website up and running and stock sorted, and of course, giving Jules the confidence the business is in good hands.”

While it is still early days, the response from customers has already been overwhelmingly positive. “People are excited the business is staying open and that they will still be getting the personalised service they’re used to. It’s been lovely to hear,” enthuses Steve.

The personal touch is especially important in a close-knit community like Marlborough. Steve and Jo are long-time locals, having lived in Renwick for over 25 years. “This is home. We love Renwick and everything about it; the people, the businesses, the spirit,” adds Jo. “Steve has

been involved with the Renwick Residents Association since 2015 and helped lead the Marlborough Vineyard Trail project. Our boys went to Renwick School, and we’ve been involved with the rugby club too. Being part of the community means a lot to us.”

Looking ahead, the couple plan to grow the business steadily, with a continued focus on quality and local support as well as stocking more sustainable and ethically sourced products. The environment has always been important to us – we may be small, but we are going to do our bit.”

Running a business together is nothing new for this couple. They have worked side by side for many years, first with the B&B and then the bike touring business. “We know how to balance our strengths and play to them,” says Jo. “Communication, patience, and humour are the secret.”

Their message to anyone who hasn’t visited Daneunder yet? “Come in for a look! Whether you need a full team uniform or just a single jacket we are here to make workwear simple, stress-free and tailored to your needs.”

Daneunder Workwear may have new owners, but its commitment to quality, service, and community remains unchanged.

“We’d love to become the complete go-to for workwear in the region, so drop in and discover how we can help dress your team.”
