Volunteer awards postponed

Tonight's annual Volunteer Marlborough Volunteer of the Year awards have been postponed due to travel concerns for nominees from rural areas of Marlborough.

General manager Meg Martin said that the community will be informed early next week with an update on how and when the Awards will proceed.

"This decision was made following discussions with Marlborough District Council and the advice of Emergency Management", said the Volunteer Marlborough organization on Facebook earlier this morning.

"The safety and wellbeing of our community always comes first, and we do not want to place anyone at risk by asking them to travel or gather during uncertain conditions.

"We know how much this evening meant to our nominees, their whānau, and the wider community—and we share your disappointment".
