The Marlborough rugby team are in scintillating form at the annual Seddon Shield under 52kg primary school rugby tournament in Nelson.

In their first two matches they have scored 178 points and conceded none.

On Monday they fronted up against hosts Nelson, coming away with a staggering 105-0 victory after leading 38-0 at halftime.

Today they beat West Coast 73-0, easing off the throttle a little after leading 52-0 at the break.

The Junior Red Devils were in unstoppable form against Nelson on day one, hat-tricks to Ryan Batty, Mason Chapman and Freddy Heagney provided the highlights as they produced some unstoppable running rugby.

Manager Jimmy Giles admits the scoreline caught the management somewhat by surprise. “Everything just clicked,” he said, “we got the bounce of the ball, tackled really well and attacked superbly from all parts. The skill sets of the whole team were great to see”.

In game two, also played at Trafalgar Park, lock Chapman picked up another four tries, a young tight forward man who clearly knows his way to the tryline.

Tomorrow Marlborough have a bye, then take on Buller on Thursday, the match to be played at Greenmeadows. They finish the tournament on Friday with a game against Golden Bay Motueka, who beat Nelson 22-17 today.
