A newly improved, flood-resistant show area at Selmes Garden Centre for plants has been supplied thanks to Outward Bound hands and Simcox Construction stones.
Flooding issues caused by overhead sprinklers watering plants onto paving stones will make a massive difference for volunteers and customers alike, says manager Angel Cooper.
“For years, our employees had been sweeping the flooding out of the area every day, leaving a lot of work that wasn’t focused on plants and which not always effective” she says.
“We have consulted with various contractors over the years trying to find a way to fix the problem but cashflow was always a huge issue”. Angel says that thanks to the generous assistance of Mills Rogers and Antony Clark from Simcox, and a working bee from Outward Bound course participants, their volunteers can focus more on the plants and less on sweeping.
“It’s one of those things that seemed like such a big job we couldn’t figure out where to start, but Mills being a surveyor and a customer was so great with his help.”
The Outward Bound group brought their positive attitudes to picking up and cleaning the pavers, playing their music and having fun while finding the satisfaction in doing a good job.
“We’ve been missing the space as it’s been blocked off for the last little while, only doing work on Monday when we’re closed. With all of this generous help, it is finally all together and looking fabulous”.
