The first two of many Local Legends have been awarded their official plaques as hero’s deserving of acknowledgement in the Marlborough Community.

Kaikōura MP Stuart Smith joined our staff to surprise the May and June winners, Cindy Thom and Gina Botham.

Cindy was nominated for her role as a foster home mum, providing for children in urgent need of short-term accommodation before finding more permanent homes. She has offered over 300 nights of foster care for teenagers originally, but now three to five-year-old children – and was acknowledged for her efforts at this years Excellence in Foster Care national awards.

Gina was nominated due to GWM Jewellery hosting their ‘Can for a Clean’ pet food collection throughout June. This campaign saw Marlborough Four Paws receive 550kg of pet food in return for GWM cleaning a total of 487 jewellery items, including

285 rings, 96 pendants/chains, 53 bangles/bracelets, 45 pairs of earrings and 8 brooches.
