Organisers of the annual Fabric-a-brac fundraiser have been blown away by the weekend’s support. The annual Hospice Marlborough fundraiser sale event, hosted at Connect Blenheim on Saturday, saw plenty of eager Marlburians of all ages, as well as travelling fabric fanatics from as far away as Northland, make the trip.
Organiser Tracy Johnston called it an “amazing day” but wanted to remind the community that leftover donations are being sold at Hospice Marlborough’s Redwoodtown store until Saturday.
“We’ve had some great feedback already from stallholders and shoppers coming from all over New Zealand ... it is really exciting to see that we’re becoming a reason for people to visit Marlborough”, said Tracy.
“The first hour of the event was an absolute mosh pit of people eager to come in and find their treasures early, and we sold out completely of the home baking, supplied from our fabulous baking supporters.”
Although the final fundraising amount is still unclear with fabrics and raffle tickets still on sale, plus the Mop Up Pop Up in the Hospice Redwoodtown shop, Tracy is well pleased already by 2025’s efforts.
“It all started with our Golden Ticket winner Roxanne Holland bringing her partner along as a shopping assistant while other early birds watched on through the windows, and she made the most of it.
“Having all ages of people there was really encouraging, while a couple of people came from the Far North and Wellington to stay with friends and come along.
“A crew from Kaikōura made the day trip up in search of quilting and spinning supplies and left so happy with their haul it made other people’s days just seeing them so happy.
“Seeing people’s smiles as they’d walk out with their treasures and showing each other is what it’s all about,” Tracy added.
