Two second half goals against Trojans at A&P Park on Saturday ensured Central Buccaneers retained their Marlborough division one football title.
Needing a win or draw to keep second-placed Trojans Los Andes, who had a bye, at bay Central prevailed 2-1, goals to Kurtis Medcalf after 65 minutes and Nate Lovell with two minutes of ordinary time remaining, negating a first half strike from Josh Renz.
The other division one match resulted in a 3-0 win to Rangers Reserves over Rangers Colts.
Final points: Central Buccaneers 23, Trojans Los Andes 21, Rangers Reserves 20, Trojans 13, Rangers Colts 6.
The division two competition also wound up, being won by Picton Crow Tavern, who beat Rangers City 4-2 on Saturday. In the other match, Rangers Masters downed BV Masters 1-0.
Final points: Picton 9, Central Wolves 6, BV Masters 6, Rangers Masters 6, Rangers City 3.
In division three, Renwick Lonewolves came out on top of the standings despite not playing on Saturday. In the matches that were contested, Trojans Strikers beat Trojans Spartans 9-2 while Trojans Angels overcame Central Privateers 7-2.
Final standings: Renwick 9, Angels 7, Strikers 6, Spartans 4, Privateers 3.
Knockout Cup
Marlborough Football has decided to run a combined division 2 and division 3 Knockout Cup competition for the remaining three weeks of the season, beginning on Saturday. The six participating teams are: Rangers City, Rangers Masters, Picton Crow Tavern, Trojans Strikers, Trojans Angels, Trojans Spartans.
On Saturday, Trojans Spartans play Trojans Strikers while Rangers City takes on Trojans Angels. Rangers Masters and Picton have a bye to the second round.
