Eager student runners and adult organisers are getting ready for the start line ahead of a popular kids’ race day this October.

The final call is going out for entries for the Harcourts Marlborough Kids Duathlon, with entries due in by October 7 ahead of race day on Sunday October 12 at Brancott Estate Vineyard in Fairhall.

Organising committee member Kate Guthrie says that plenty of work behind the scenes goes into having the annual popular event available for Marlborough kids, but it’s all worthwhile seeing the busyness of the start line and smiles on the day.

“I think it’s great that it both appeals to kids across the Top of the South interested in competitive sport, but also as an introduction for those who just want to have a good time with their friends – it’s a real community feel”, she says.

“Usually, it’s the smaller rural schools that really embrace it, and we all try to support one another by attending events that people put on”.

With the Harcourts Marlborough Kids Duathlon being volunteer-run with sponsorship support, Kate says it shows the Marlborough community encouraging their young ones to be fit and active together.

“A lot of work goes on behind the scenes from people that already have full time jobs. There’s about 200 entries already, but we know that over the last few weeks the numbers really ramp up.”
