Crash south of Ward closes SH1

A serious crash on State Highway 1 has closed the road into the evening between Ward and Wharenui settlements near Ure Road, approximately 50km south of Blenheim.

Fire and Emergency confirmed that four fire engines from Flaxbourne, Seddon, and Blenheim were attending a heavy rescue motor vehicle crash reported at 2.51pm, alongside police and St John Ambulance.

Police-led serious crash investigations will be required which will close the road into the evening at least. No immediate detour is available.
