The ‘Street Photography of Marlborough Towns’ exhibition has been in planning since July 2025, as a learning collaboration undertaken by NMIT Community Living Skills Digital Photography learners, led by tutor Osmith Vides-Contreras and Debbie Mason.

Eleven pieces of photographic art, taken in Picton, Blenheim, Havelock, and Renwick, are on exhibition, identifying the artist, their inspiration and methods – with five sold at the opening event.

Their creative efforts culminated in a joyful and busy opening event at the Watery Mouth Café, on Tuesday November 4.

Feedback from the photographers from the opening evening, which was very well attended, was glowing for both the Street Photography course and the gallery opening.

“We all loved to see all the people that attended the exhibition, as we got to meet new people and really enjoyed the days out too”, said James Savage.

“I chose to have the fence in the photo, as it gives the photo a sense of 3D and with interesting lines”.

“A highlight for me was being able to display my photo ‘View from Watery Mouth Café’, I really  like this café as it was interesting to see the colour, angles and shadows change, but this was my favourite”, said Jarrod Tamaro.

“When finding this photo, I wanted to challenge myself, and I have a massive fear of heights so picked a time I thought the light would be interesting”, described Ronan Burgess.

“So when I waited for there to be nobody in frame, with my girlfriend helping me because I was scared, getting my photo the first time was amazing.

“I really enjoyed the evening and was delighted when my key worker bought my exhibited photo named ‘Two Beautiful Dogs in Picton’”, said Theresa Cannon.
The exhibition remains in place upstairs at the Watery Mouth until Monday November 17.
