‘Bohally in the Jungle’, pictured below, have brought home dance silverwear and are hoping for more, as the Year 7-8 Jump Jam Xtreme South Island champions await national results.

Their South Island category win means now they await scores from the North Island Jump Jam championships – held this past weekend in Tauranga – to decide the Jump Jam national champions.

Teachers Brittney Lyons and Olivia Pinkerton said between having to choose from 150 keen kids at the regional competition, change 40 percent  of the routine to their song ‘Tarzan & Jane’ by Toy-Box, and choreograph with Springlands teacher and “Blenheim’s Jump Jam expert” Courtney Hayley, they’re thrilled by the success.

“We’re very proud”, says Brittney. “We’d had a few run throughs, but we changed stuff a few days before we left so in Christchurch was the first run through to see it all come together judged on technical execution, costuming, and presentation especially after a long day with the category performing last”.

The hotly contested competition saw ‘Bohally in the Jungle’ best last years national champion’s Woodend School  – which has given quiet hope ahead of the North Island competition.

“This group of kids have been practising for our national competition for a few months now, and Courtney too has done a lot for this competition, from dance to costumes, and deserves much of the credit the reason it all came together as well as it has”, says Olivia.

“A lot of our kids have dance experience out of school they had to show lots of dedication with group trainings and practice in their own time. They really pulled it out the bag and came through when it counted under the big lights”.
