Marlborough tennis juniors made short work of retaining the Malcolm Shield recently, prevailing over their Nelson rivals 15-1 at a sun-drenched Marlborough Tennis Centre to kick start their season.

The local team of five boys and five girls dominated across doubles, singles and mixed doubles formats to maintain their vice-like grip on the prestigious trophy in recent times. They currently hold all four annual rep trophies.

Outstanding performances came from team captain Mia Harris who dropped just games across her three matches and Joseph Gilhooly beating Nelson's number one ranked junior Fynley Ison 6-1, 6-0.

The Marlborough team comprised: Mia Harris (captain), Amy Watmough-Smith, Zoey She, Lily Atkinson, Joy Xu, Joseph Gilhooly, Aidan Su, Alex Watmough-Smith, Zihan Hong and Ben Cameron. Coach Reilly Quirk.
