Movember is the only charity tackling men’s health on a truly global scale, year-round. Its mission is simple yet vital: to stop men dying too young. What began as a cheeky challenge among mates has grown into one of the most recognisable and impactful health movements in the world.

It all started in 2003, when 30 friends in Melbourne decided to revive the moustache as a bit of fun. They called themselves the “Mo Bros” and turned their no-shave challenge into a campaign for prostate cancer awareness. Soon after the movement spread like wildfire and today, millions of people in more than 20 countries take part, having helped fund over 1,300 projects focused on prostate and testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention.
At its heart, Movember is about more than facial hair. It’s about conversation. A simple “How are you, mate?” can be the start of something lifesaving. Men everywhere face pressures to stay silent or “tough it out,” but Movember encourages openness and support. That’s why it’s so important in communities like Marlborough, where mate ship runs deep and people look out for each other.

This year, locals are stepping up once again. From moustache competitions at workplaces and vineyards to fundraising events in cafés and gyms, Marlborough is buzzing with Mo energy. Even the upcoming GODZONE adventure race will feature a “Team Movember Athletics Club,” a group of four adventurers racing to raise funds for men’s mental health in memory of a loved one.
You don’t have to climb mountains or grow a masterpiece of a moustache to make a difference. You can donate, host a “Mo-ment” event, or simply start a conversation that might just change a life.

Think about what you and your mates can do to encourage each other to raise awareness for this important month on the world health calendar. While you’re at it, encourage each other to get checked out when needed by health professionals before problems escalate. Being proactive saves lives.
This Movember isn’t just about moustaches; it’s about saving lives. When men speak up, get checked early and support each other, outcomes improve. The funds raised help research and services tailored for men. Changing the face of men's health by speaking out is this year’s core message.

Strike up a conversation with a mate, create an event and, if you are able, donate here. Every dollar raised will make a difference to the improvement in men’s health.
