Loud appeal

Over 500 banana boxes full of supplies were donated from across the community, as fire trucks and collections travelled the region’s roads last Monday for the Community Foodbank Street Appeal.

Foodbank manager Wynnie Cosgrove said the street appeal “went quite well”.

“We have been down from last year, which was kind of expected, but it’s great to see the number of hands which helped us - 30 to 40 just in the Foodbank with our staff and the Lions, plus everyone out collecting and volunteering their time.

“It’s just a reality that we’re getting those products already sent out to people. We’re finding the demand is reaching the same at the worst of Covid, having 20 boxes a day going out”, added Jo Lane.

“But we are blown away by how generous Marlborough has been both on the day and with behind the scene donations from people and businesses of money, food, or even a processed beast.”
