Local Intermediate students had their building and problem-solving tested throughout a competitive Friday at the Marlborough Technology Centre.
The annual Cuddon Technology Challenge sees teams take on three challenges and a technology quiz - all with a relevant Marlborough spin on them - to earn points for the overall result. Students were challenged to build a free-standing bridge, over 900mm in length, 370mm wide and able to support a 500g vehicle, before then building a self-propelled vehicle to drive over their bridge. Their third challenge was to build a self-supporting shelter which protects team members from wind supplied by a leafblower, and rain from a water gun.
After a competitive day throughout, the final winners were Richmond View School’s Josiah Green, Abigail de Jager, Grayson Moar and Gabriella Pedersen.
The Marlborough Weekly was pleased to assist in the day, supplying old newspapers for building materials.
