The Blenheim Lions Club has been out and about to end the year, not only staging their Christmas Market but sharing the love across community groups.

Club president Helen Williams says that the club has distributed several large donations, ranging from $1,000 to $5,000, to community groups and projects
A highlight for Helen was when Lions donated $3,700 to cover the cost of a Christmas Day luncheon at Crossroads for 100 people, ensuring the event could go ahead.

“I approached Crossroads after reading a [Marlborough Weekly] article in October about the organisation struggling to continue its services, and after speaking with manager Jeanine Sadd who mentioned plans for a Christmas lunch, we invited her to apply for funding which was met.”

Alongside the Christmas luncheon, the Lions have assisted Marlborough Special Olympics to cover team costs to attend December’s Summer Games in Christchurch, funding a concrete floor for the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre workshop, and paying for a new roller door at Marlborough Heritage Farm Machinery at Brayshaw Park.

The Lions also supported Marlborough Riding for Disabled with new lighting in its indoor arena, contributed to the Spirit of Adventure sailing voyage for disabled youth, helped Stadium 2000 purchase a hoist for pool entry, and helped the Cancer Shuttle bus service, which transports locals receiving treatment in Christchurch from Cancer Society accommodation to the hospital.

“We’re proud all of these donations reflect our commitment to supporting local initiatives through funds raised at community events.”
