Rowing medals won at Lake Ruataniwha

Wairau rowers claimed a string of podium finishes at the recent Canterbury Championships on Lake Ruataniwha.

Marlborough Boys’ College athletes, rowing under the Wairau banner, managed seven podium finishes.

Leading the way with gold medals were the men’s novice coxed four of Isaac Coleman, Max Skehan, Ned Bowron, Billy Hurren and Jonah Alipia, plus the men’s club pair of Aidan Bennett and Zac Jenkins.

Silver medals were won by the men’s U19 coxed four of Aidan Bennett, Logan Flight, Jack Taylor, Hunter Marfell and Patrick Gaines, the men’s intermediate coxed four comprising Ollie Saggers, Blake Marfell, Blake Pitts, Tom Dunne and Patrick Gaines and the boys U15 coxed quad of Ollie Saggers, Logan Planthaber, Sam Shenfield, Harris Spencer and Cohen McClennan.

Picking up third placings were the men’s club coxless four of Aidan Bennett, Zac Jenkins, Logan Flight and Hunter Marfell, the men’s novice double of Isaac Coleman and Max Skehan.

Marlborough Girls’ College crews also got among the medals.

A gold medal was won by the U16 coxed four of Ruby Lindstrom, Maisie Shenfield, Poppy Fernandez, Kate Young and Hayley Sutherland.

Silver medals went to the women’s club coxless pair of Anna Hurren and Paige Wentworth, the U17 single sculler Maisie Shenfield, the U16 coxed four of Charlie Bennett, Daisy Lindstrom, Maggie Clark, Emma Eyles and Molly Hoban, plus the U19 coxed four of Ceilia Spencer, Daisy Lindstrom, Anna Hurren, Paige Wentworth and Molly Hoban.

Next up is the South Island Club Champs on 31 January-1 February.
