Questioning Councillor

Re: “Alcohol bylaw ‘loophole’ closed”

I don’t understand how someone who is in a position of control over Marlborough doesn’t understand how Marlborough works?

It’s easy for me to speak from the cheap seats, I get that. However, I do expect the people in charge of our way forward to understand where we are now.

—Joe Wade

What a waste of time. How can a councillor not know the basics and why couldn’t he ask someone first, like the police that have to enforce by laws?

Anyway, I find it ridiculous you can’t have a picnic on the foreshore with a bottle of wine in the wine capital, and why? Because of alcoholics.

Councillor’s response

What the story doesn’t say is that not only did I agree with the intent of the change, I was the seconder of the motion. I was simply making sure that the bylaw didn’t prevent the intention from being achieved.
