Today's Council meeting starts an hour later than usual
Reviews of the Easter trading policy and a proposal to facilitate a hotel in Blenheim’s CBD highlight the agenda for Marlborough District Council on Thursday (19 February).
Council shifted the start time to 10am; sessions usually start at 9am.
Per 1990’s Shop Trading Hours Act, Council must enact an Easter Sunday Shop Trading Policy for retailers other than those exempted (such as dairies and petrol stations) to open on the holiday.
Councillors may retain the policy adopted in 2017 that permits this trading in the district or may let the policy lapse.
Specific to Blenheim, Councillors will consider whether to lease some Council‑owned carpark land for two years as staging area for construction of a 122‑room hotel and to reduce the time limit at the former Clubs of Marlborough carpark to four hours instead of the current eight hours.
Other items of note are right-of-way easements for 45 Kendrick Road and updated delegations of authority to Council officers for specified responsibilities.
Matters for discussion with public excluded include confirmation of minutes and committee reports; Cor 7 Report findings; and community representation on the Arts, Culture, and Heritage Sub-Committee and the Grants Sub-Committee.
