Inter-house rivalry and fun times were to the fore when the annual Marlborough Girls’ College athletics championships were staged at Athletic Park on Friday.

Lizzie Gibbons, Hayley Sutherland and Dylan Foote went the extra mile to support their Awatere house mates.

Results:

Under-14 championship: 1 Brooklyn Smidt-Robinson (1st 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, High Jump, 2nd Long Jump); 2 Charlotte Goodsir (1st Javelin, Shot Put, 2nd 1500m, 3rd Discus); 3= Anna Dasler (2nd 100m, 200m, 3rd Long Jump); 3= Skye Nurse (1st 1500m, 2nd 800m).

Ryleigh Gale brings Wairau House home first in the well-supported 4x100m relay.

Under-15 championship: 1 Alyssa Haronga (1st 100m, Long Jump, High Jump, Discus, Shot Put, 2nd 200m); 2 Lena Bailey (1st 400m, 800, 1500m, Open 3000m); 3 Ali Senior (2nd 800m, 1500m, 3rd Open 3000m).

House support was the order of the day.

Under-16 championship: 1 Leia Shaw (1st 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, Long Jump, 3rd High Jump); 2 McKenzie Haronga (1st Discus, Shot Put, 2nd 100m, High Jump, 3rd 400m); 3 Brooke Goodsir (1st High Jump, 2nd Long Jump, Discus, 3rd 800m, Javelin).

Alyssa Haronga won the high jump and the under-15 championship.

Under-19 championship: 1 Jaye Wiapo (1st 200m, 400m, 800m, Discus, 2nd 100m, Shot Put); 2 Ryleigh Gale (1st 100m, Long Jump, 2nd High Jump); 3= Fenella Cooney (2nd 200m, 1500m, 3000m); 3= Jah’bree MacDonald (1st High Jump, 2nd Discus, 3rd Long Jump).

House points: 1 Kaituna, 2 Wairau, 3 Opaoa, 4 Awatere.

The tyre rolling relay proved popular.
