The weather might not have always played ball, but that did not dampen the spirits of the 150 women who gathered at the Marlborough Golf Club earlier this week for the 26th edition of the Allan Scott Family Wines women’s tournament.
The format of the ever-popular event which attracts players from throughout the country, remained the same.
On Monday, a stableford competition was contested in three divisions, on Tuesday a four-ball, best-ball pairs competition was played then, on Wednesday, a gross and nett competition was undertaken across three divisions.
Organisers said, “The weather was a bit indifferent for the first two days but day three was played in perfect golfing weather conditions … a beautiful Marlborough Autumn day”.
Winner on countback of the Allan Scott Trophy, for most stableford points on Monday, was Pippa Neilson from Clearwater. She topped the junior division while Jillian Reakes, from the Cambridge club, was the senior winner and Bronwyn Fletcher, from the Royal Auckland Grange club, claimed the intermediate title.
Tuesday’s pairs competition also featured close competition, the combination of Gaye Muir and Cathy Peterson from the Omaha Beach and Lincoln clubs coming out on top with 50 combined stableford points.
On Wednesday, Suzette Eastmond from Omaha Beach GC won the senior gross while Paula Thomson from Paraparaumu GC took out the senior nett prize.
Underlining the nationwide attraction of the annual get-together is the lengthy list and diversity of participants’ home clubs – namely, Cambridge, Royal Wellington, Waimakariri Gorge, Paraparaumu Beach, Ashburton, Martinborough, Harewood, Titirangi, Clearwater, Royal Auckland, Methven, Kaikoura, Tinwald, Omokoroa, Christchurch, Wanaka, Omaha Beach, Lincoln, Judgeford, Akarana, Kaiapoi, Miramar, Waimairi Beach, Mangawhai, Masterton, Rangiora, Helensville and several from around the Marlborough/Tasman district.
