Members of the Marlborough District Council may feel like they’re looking into a mirror on Thursday morning when the governing body publicly reviews a series of self-referential documents.

Councillors will convene in chambers at 9am to consider updates to the 2025-28 Local Governance Statement, which lays out how the organisation operates, and disclosures for subsidiary entities overlaying the airport and port.

The agenda also includes reports on Marlborough’s environmental plan – specifically, fresh approvals for marine farming – and work in councillors’ committees. The public excluded portion features a discussion related to Morgans Road No. 2 Bridge.

Fulfilling a legal requirement ahead of the national election, the Local Governance Statement specifies how the Council currently stands regarding (per the staff summaryt) “governance structures, statutory obligations, key processes, and how the public can participate in decision-making.”

Separately, councillors are reviewing updated plans and reports for MDC Holdings Limited as well as Marlborough Airport Limited.

Regional coastal components of the Proposed Marlborough Environment Plan (PMEP), approved by Council in December, required Central Government sign-off. That came from the Minister of Conservation on 12 March. The matter at hand is making the provisions operative.

Council’s meeting is public. Visit marlborough.govt.nz/your-council/meetings for the full agenda and supporting documentation.
