Tony Quirk got a five-mayor sendoff into retirement on Thursday morning when Marlborough District Council recognised its Legal and District Secretary for 46 years of service to the province.

Mayor Nadine Taylor and four of her predecessors – Liz Davidson, Gerald Hope, Alastair Sowman and John Leggett – each spoke to Tony's contributions to local government.  Several mentioned his involvement with gymnastics, as well.

During regular business, councillors unanimously approved committee reports, statements on council (and subsidiaries') operations and activating environmental plan provisions for marine farming.
