Backstage buzz
Fresh of debuting its new name on the marquee, Marlborough’s performing arts centre unveiled a new name behind the scenes: Loreen Domijan, hired as Whitehaven Theatre manager.

Monday’s announcement from Marlborough Civic Theatre Trust says she “brings over 15 years of experience in theatre and live performance operations … working with multi-use venues and large-scale events.” Loreen worked for the New York City Ballet and Walt Disney World Entertainment, and on New York Fashion Week and the Tribecca Film Festival.

The organisation also announced an anniversary celebration for the theatre (10 years) and the trust (50 years). “Curtain Up” will happen 29 May.

Jettisoning jetty numbers
Marlborough Sounds residents with waterside properties have an added way of noting their location. Council offers a free water addressing system to supplement, if not supplant, reliance on jetty numbers.

An announcement on Monday explained how water addressing uses a distance-based method with measurements along the shoreline. This is like rural RAPID numbering which measures distances on roads.

“While useful for navigation,” Council said, “jetty numbers do not meet modern addressing standards now widely required for emergency response, delivery services, infrastructure management, and general property identification. Property addressing is also the basis of New Zealand’s voting system.”

Radiant heat
Pride Wairau 2026, with “Radiate” as its thematic name, has rolled out the lineup of events for the 12-21 June festival.

Entertainers booked to come to Marlborough include Aroha (the headliner) and Halfqueen, DJs who both performed at Glastonbury; drag artist Kita Mean, part of the inaugural Fruit Loop Festival bill; and singers Emerson and Paige.
