Sip tips
Marlborough’s wine industry raises a glass – and hopes others will do the same – to the region’s marquee vintage on International Sauvignon Blanc Day, which this year falls on 1 May.
That Friday starts a month of Sauv & Sip tastings at local cellar doors. The price is standardised at $10, but each winery will provide distinct offerings.

Stock tips
Beef + Lamb New Zealand will hold its Marlborough Farming for Profit Field Day on 5 May at Ward Hall. The organisation calls it “a farmer‑focused afternoon” about “non‑negotiable foundations behind top stock performance.”
Fraser Avery, who raises livestock at the Bonavaree property near Lake Grassmere, will moderate a panel featuring fellow farmers Rob Peter, David Grigg, and Mark Zino. Dr Mark Ferguson of neXtgen Agri International will speak about genetics.

Trash tips
Farmers know the benefits of recycling and the hazards of cross-contamination. Those ideas interrelate when it comes to disposing of recyclables.
Marlborough Sounds Marinas noted in a 31 March advisory that, over the preceding month, 44 percent of materials deposited in its facilities’ recycle containers had to go to the landfill because of contamination.
“A quick rinse and a moment to choose the right bin can make a real difference,” the operator posted, “and supports everyone who’s already doing the right thing.”
