Roads around Marlborough which emergency officials closed due to impacts of the overnight storm all reopened by midday on Saturday, though Council still urged caution.

The reopenings included SH6 between Pelorus and Havelock, where flooding trapped six travellers in their vehicles on Friday night. All got rescued, but police shut the highway. It reopened with 50km temporary speed limits in place.

Other affected routes, now back open, included Northbank Road, 4.5km past Top Valley Road; Cat Creek Road; Kaiuma Bay Road at Daltons Bridge and Te Hoiere Road; Te Hoiere Road, Opouri Road, Tunakino Valley Road; and Ronga Road, about 11km down.

In its noon update, Council asked motorist "to slow down and drive to the conditions, especially in flood damaged areas."
