NPD sites to switch as Night ‘n Day takes over stores

Nelson-owned fuel company NPD is separating its fuel and retail operations at seven South Island sites, with Night ‘n Day set to take over the convenience stores.

The change will see NPD continue to own and operate the fuel forecourts, which will remain open as 24/7 Premium self-serve sites, while Night ‘n Day runs the retail side of the business.

The sites involved include NPD Redwood in Blenheim, along with sites in Christchurch and Nelson.

NPD chief executive Barry Sheridan says the move will allow the company to sharpen its focus on delivering competitive fuel prices.

“Night ‘n Day is a strong fit. They’re a nationwide, family-owned business with values that align closely with ours, and we’re confident they’ll continue delivering a great convenience offering for customers. This transition allows NPD to sharpen our focus on what we do best - providing Kiwis with quality fuel at competitive prices through our growing self-serve network, while Night ‘n Day brings its expertise in convenience retailing to these locations.”

As the sites move to a self-serve model, discounts including SuperGold Card, supermarket dockets, Corrections, Defence and student discounts will no longer apply. NPD says customers will instead benefit from standard self-serve pricing and regular Discount Day promotions.

Matthew Lane, general manager Night ‘n Day, says the deal is an opportunity to strengthen the company’s South Island presence.

The transition will take place over the coming period, with fuel services remaining unchanged throughout.
