Police are still searching for the family of a baby whose body was found on the side of a rural road in Marlborough two weeks ago.

A machinery operator found the baby's body on Wairau Bar Road, near Spring Creek, on 19 May.

The baby has not been publicly identified.

At the time, Inspector Simon Feltham said police were working to establish what happened to the child.

Police were extremely concerned about the welfare of the mother and wider family, he said.

Police refused to answer questions on Wednesday about the identification process and whether investigators had spoken to anyone in relation to the baby's death.
