Gusts this week appear to be the prelude for this weekend as MetService issued a strong wind watch for Marlborough.
Starting 9am on Saturday, extending 17 hours through 2am, the alert covers the Sounds and inland ranges.
MetService advises "northwest winds may approach severe gale in exposed places". There is a moderate chance of the watch upgrading to a warning.
