A funeral service will be held next week for an infant that was found in Marlborough on 19 May.

The body of the stillborn baby was discovered on Wairau Bar Road.

Detective Sergeant Jason Hillgrove says local businesses and community groups have generously donated time, services, and resources to assist with the arrangements for this service.

Detective Sergeant Hillgrove says police are still working diligently to identify any family members through ongoing forensic enquiries.

“We are still concerned for the welfare of the mother. We would like to ensure she is safe and can receive any appropriate treatment or support,” he says.

Police also continue to seek information from the public to help locate the mother or other family.

Public are advised to get in touch through our 105 service, either over the phone or online at 105.police.govt.nz.
