Golden fleece
Fabric-a-brac Marlborough 2026 set a national record by raising $15,275 for Hospice Marlborough.

The unpredented total came from the 18 July event at Connect Blenheim and the 20-29 July “mop-up pop-up sale” at the Hospice Shop in Redwoodtown. The organisation must raise $1 million a year to provide services at no cost to 140 Marlburians a month.

Organiser Tracy Johnston said the community’s generosity “makes all the hard work of the volunteers worthwhile and motivates us all to do it all again next year.”

Dining honours
In a precursor to the 2026 Good Food Awards, Cuisine Magazine has placed 11 Marlborough restaurants on its “watch list” for New Zealand honours.

Those are, in alphabetical order: Arbour, Eat Thai, Franks Oyster Bar & Eatery, Gramado’s, Harvest, Noodle Corner, Number 11 at Wairau River Winery, Quench, Saint Clair Vineyard Kitchen, Saku at Cloudy Bay, and Sasa.

In 2025, Cuisine recognised Arbour and Harvest among the country’s top restaurants. The 2026 awards come out 24 August.

Orange-cone alert
If you see Blenheim streets lined with traffic cones over the next eight to 12 weeks, the reason likely sits below paving level. Council contractor Cato is inspecting and pressure-cleaning 7.2km of pipelines carrying wastewater.

Work takes place 7am-6:30pm daily except Sundays. Council announced that service will not be interrupted and crews need no access to private properties.

CBD ’chairs
CBD visitors with mobility issues can get help traversing Market Street’s sidewalks via two wheelchairs provided by revamp project contractor Fulton Hogan.

Natarsha Ireland, the site traffic management specialist, serves as “wheelchair navigation expert”.
