Entries open for Marlborough A&P Show

Entries are now open for the Marlborough A&P Show, which will be held on November 7, with some equestrian classes and the dog trials taking place on November 6.

Popular attractions such as the terrier race and the Grand Parade will follow the livestock competitions, which offer plenty of opportunities for young people to get involved. These include pet competitions and junior handler classes in both the dairy and beef sections.

The increasingly popular pig competition, in which both the pigs and the presentation of their owners are judged, is expected to be twice the size of last year’s event.

Show secretary Alice Parkinson says food stall sites have already sold out and a waiting list was now in place. She says the show would not be possible without the support of sponsors, and this year two new sponsors had been secured for the beef section.

There are two Young Handler classes: one for competitors aged 10 and under, and another for those aged 11 to 18. The classes are designed to introduce the next generation to the showing scene.

The prestigious and historic Meat and Wool Cup will be contested in the All-Breeds competition, with a well-known stud breeder from outside the region judging the main ring classes.

Show committee president Glenn Dick acknowledged the contribution made by sponsors, exhibitors and the public to the event’s success. He encouraged competitors to enter early to assist organisers in delivering an outstanding experience for everyone involved.
