The Marlborough community has shown its generosity in spectacular fashion, helping raise more than $20,000 for the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter Trust at a quiz fundraiser organised by Hunter Marfell and his family.

Held at Marlborough Boys' College on Saturday, 15 August, the event was inspired by Hunter's own experience after a serious mountain biking accident in December 2024.
Following the accident, Hunter was flown to Christchurch Hospital by rescue helicopter, an experience that highlighted the vital role the service plays for people across the region. The evening drew strong community support, with funds raised through quiz table entries, a silent auction and a wide range of spot prizes.
Local businesses responded enthusiastically, donating prizes and services that helped make the fundraising effort such a success. The final tally has now surpassed $20,000, with all proceeds going towards supporting the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter Trust and ensuring the life-saving service can continue operating throughout the top of the South Island.
"We are absolutely thrilled to have raised $20,000 for the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter," said Sharleen Marfell.

"The whole Marlborough community really got behind us, and we were blown away by the generosity and support from local businesses and the wider community.
"The Marfell family would also like to sincerely thank all sponsors whose generosity played a significant role in making the night such a memorable success.
