Potters to share building plans
Marlborough Community Potters president Tegan Renwick-Foster will discuss the group’s nearly 50-year history and plans for a new building at the next Café Create session.

The ceramicist, who has a background in industrial design, will also outline current fundraising efforts and how the community can support the project.

Hosted by Marlborough District Council’s arts, culture and heritage team, the event will be held at Small Town Winery on Thursday, 27 August, from 5.30pm to 7pm.

Taylor & Co apprentice places third
Taylor & Co Building apprentice William Farnsworth has placed third in the Central and Upper South Island round of the 2026 Master Builders CARTERS Apprentice of the Year competition.

The BCITO-trained apprentice impressed judges with his building knowledge and experience across residential, commercial and joinery projects.

William’s entry focused on a Kāinga Ora project, where judges praised his ability to apply lessons from previous work to improve the construction of intertenancy walls. National finals will be held in Auckland from 7-9 October.

Man sentenced for offending against girl
A Blenheim man has been convicted on two charges of sexual conduct with a young person following an incident in a Seymour Square public toilet in March last year.

The 31-year-old, who has permanent name suppression, was sentenced in the Blenheim District Court to five months’ home detention and six months’ post-release conditions after pleading guilty to the charges.

Judge Bill Hastings declined an application for a discharge without conviction, saying the consequences of a conviction were not out of proportion to the seriousness of the offending. The man was also banned from being within 20m of a public toilet without approval.
