Netballers relish final fling

Marlborough Netball’s finals day brought Stadium 2000 alive on Saturday.

From early morning, eight Saturday senior grade finals were played under the roof, plus the premier grade final and an exhibition match.

A steady stream of supporters was treated to a wide array of netball skills and thrilling encounters, with all teams given maximum vocal support.

Several of the matches were decided by five goals or less, including the premier clash.

One of the most thrilling clashes of the day came in the grade one final, where Awatere edged past Marlborough Girls’ College Thomas’s Jetz 25-24, the decibel levels in the stadium reaching new heights in the final stages.

The exhibition match, between the local Mixed Invitational side and the Nelson men’s side, was also a tight encounter, the visiting crew getting up to win in the final stages 46-43.
