Drivers travelling over Weld Pass on State Highway One in Marlborough can expect delays on Tuesday as urgent work is underway to clear a slip.
The Transport Agency (NZTA) said the slip was moving onto the road at a sharp bend and needed to be removed so people wouldn't cross the centre line trying to avoid it.
The road would be closed three times during the day for an hour to allow the work to get done.
The closures would be at 9am, 10.30am and midday.
The rest of the time it would be under stop-go signs until 3pm.
NZTA said people travelling to catch the ferry should take the delays into account and allow extra time for their journey.
