A popular school fundraiser is back, giving Marlborough shoppers the chance to win one of four sought-after grocery grabs.

Now in its third year, the annual Grocery Grab has been organised by Friends of Witherlea School.

Sponsored by New World Blenheim, the raffle gives ticket holders the chance to win the grand prize of a two-minute grocery grab. A 90-second and a 60-second trolley dash are also up for grabs.

With tickets selling for $5 each, it’s worth a go, says organisers Ruth Hawker and Kylie Sheard.

“Our first Grocery Grab went towards heat pumps for classrooms, and our second allowed us to build a new junior playground and refurbish the senior one.

“We ensure all the funding goes directly to benefit the kids,” Ruth explains.

“We’re so glad to have the support from Tineke, Greg and the New World Blenheim team for this”, says Kylie.

“Our top student ticket seller also wins a 30 second Grocery Grab, and despite parent’s urging they always tend to go straight for the confectionary aisle,” she laughs.

New World Blenheim owner Tineke says she hopes this year’s Grocery Grab is as successful as past events.

“The Grocery Grab is always an incredibly well supported event, and I hope it’s just as successful this year.”

Gathering at the store ahead of the raffle ticket launch on Monday, school pupils had their own ideas about what they would go for, ranging from “the most expensive aisle” to “getting lots of flowers and chocolate”.

Witherlea School Grocery Grab tickets are on sale until the 16 of August, with winners announced via phone and Facebook on the 23 August before the Grocery Grab on the 29 August.

Students are selling tickets around town now.
