Firefighters have been fighting a grass fire in the Blind River area of South Marlborough today, despite overcast conditions and cooler temperatures in the region.

Three fire crews, from Seddon, Awatere and Blenheim, were called out at 10am this morning to the area near Lake Grassmere, between Tetley Brook Road, SH1 and Caseys Road south of Seddon.

The Marlborough region is still in a total fire ban since early January, due to the potential of ongoing fires and quantity of dry material in the region.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand have been approached for comment.
