A talented film director has been recognised at a prestigious international film festival for his Marlborough made films.
Walking the red carpet, director Tyler Redmond, 21, has been clocking up professional accolades alongside his team.
His Marlborough-made film Dive won Best Student Film at the recent AFIN International Film Festival in Brisbane.
Being there in person was a “pinch me,” moment, Tyler says.
“I went along as it was a chance to network and an opportunity to meet distributors.
“It was a beautiful celebration of artistic integrity. There were no egos there.”
An Inspire foundation awardee, Tyler was given a grant to attend the awards.
His win comes just weeks after being awarded Silver for cinematography in the Student Film category at the 7th NZCS Awards in for Bringing Mere Home in October
Mingling with the distributors and industry pros such as the Director of Photography for Pirates of the Caribbean, the night was one to remember.
Dive is a coming-of-age story following troubled dad Troy, played by Fredrick Pokai, and his 14-year-old daughter, Paula, played by Lily Roebeck.
It was filmed in Blenheim and featured a huge cast, including 100 extras.
Tyler is enjoying a short break with his family in Blenheim before returning to Auckland and a string of ongoing projects.
For now, he is enjoying the moment, he says.
“For me, I feel that the people who are most proud of me are the people I surround myself with.
“It’s not just me, it’s a team effort, it’s finding the team. If that’s not there, it won’t be right.”
