The Wednesday night plans of Marlburians were cut short after a power outage struck across Blenheim at 8:30pm.
The CBD was plunged into darkness and phone connections were patchy as people were forced to leave the second show of School of Rock at the ASB Theatre unfinished, as well as the weekly pub quiz at Biddy Kate's on Alfred Street on Wednesday night.

The power cut was relatively localized to the CBD, with New World just across the river seemingly unaffected.
Marlborough Lines GM of Network Operations Warner Nichol said "450 buildings were affected due to a fault on a high voltage cable on Maxwell Road, and the power returned progressively with all power restored by 11pm".
