Rowers book finals spots at national rowing champs

It was semifinal time at Lake Ruataniwha today, and the 17-strong Wairau Rowing Club contingent made their presence felt.

On the third day of competition at the national championships, 44 races were spread over a long day.

Wairau will be well represented come finals time across a variety of boat classes. They have four athletes in the men’s under-22 A final, Kobe Miller winning his heat while Logan Docherty produced the quickest time of the Wairau quartet.

The women’s senior pair of Kyla Otway and Meg Flanagan finished second in their semifinal and look a decent medal prospect.

Thursday and Friday are given over to finals, with several Wairau rowers having booked finals berths directly from heat placings.
