An alleged thief who targeted a Seddon store was caught after he returned to retrieve the hammer he used to smash his way in.
Seddon Supermarket was broken into for the second time in just three weeks on Saturday night.
And after alarm system bosses alerted the owner, he was able to catch the person who allegedly broke in when he returned to the scene of the crime.
Supermarket employee Mariead Dyde says the owner caught up with the alleged offender when he came back to the store.
“The security systems all worked as expected, we got everything back and we’re glad to have everyone safe”, she says.
The security firm monitoring the store’s alarms alerted the owner they had been triggered.
A man had used a hammer to smash the supermarket’s front windows.
While he fled the scene, the alleged perpetrator returned only to be caught by the stunned owner who gave chase in his car.
It is the third break in three weeks for the town after the Seddon Supermarket, and the nearby Cosy Corner Café, were targeted with thieves taking cigarettes, vapes, groceries and money.
Police say enquiries are ongoing.
